Practising yoga while seated develops a slow and mindful movement programme focused on joint mobility and flexibility. This class is available to all irrespective of age, ability, or experience. Chair yoga explores the body’s full range of movement without weight impact which can be beneficial when recovering from illness or injury. During class breath-work exercises are incorporated which increases the capacity of the lungs, boosts circulation reducing blood pressure, and reduces anxiety by moving us out of the ‘fight or flight’ part of the nervous system. 

Potential benefits of the Chair Yoga program include:

  • Reduces stress and anxiety with the development of mindful movement and intuitive awareness of the present moment experience. 

  • Allows for exercises of mobility and flexibility without putting stress or strain on joints.
  • Scientifically proven to reduce the physiological effects of stress on the body such as high blood pressure, heart palpitations, muscle tension and pain.

  • Can be practised anywhere at any time helping you to develop a programme which can be integrated into daily life.

  • Improves mental clarity by slowing down the breath and moving in sync with the body.

  • Increases confidence through slow movement and awareness of what is right for you. Also useful for conversations with health practitioners when describing how you are truly feeling and how they could possibly best help you.
